Out & About On Campus

  • 2019 United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals Training. The Faculty of Environmental Studies (FES) and the Office of Sustainability are inviting you to interact with UN officials, policymakers, and civil society activists who are implementing the Sustainable Development Goals around the world. Participants will hear a keynote address from Julie Marshall, Canada’s spokesperson for the World Food Programme, and will receive a certificate of completion. Saturday, March 16, 9am to 1pm in Vari Hall.

  • Submit a proposal to present at the 10th Annual Peer Leader Conference. This year’s theme is Fostering Inclusive Leadership and will include a prize raffle as well as feature a keynote address from Joseph Smith, Co-Creator of Non-Profit "Generation Chosen.” Deadline for submission: Friday, March 29.   • York wants to know how to better communicate with you, our students. We’ve put together a 10-minute survey to find out what you think about the ways we currently provide information and how we can improve to meet your needs. Complete the survey to enter our draw for ONE of TWO $100 GIFT CERTIFICATES or SIX $50 GIFT CERTIFICATES for the York U BOOKSTORE.

  • The City of Toronto’s first-ever CRAM learning festival will bring ground-breaking research from York University, the University of Toronto, Ryerson University and OCAD University out of the lab and into a festival-style setting. Volunteers needed to help with a wide variety of events that will take place in and around Vari Hall at the Keele Campus. Sign up before Friday, March 15.

  • Devised Theatre Festival: The culminating project for the fourth-year devised theatre students featuring four new productions exploring the theme of connection to others, to ourselves and to those who have passed through social media. Monday, March 11 to Saturday, March 16, Accolade East Building 207 & 209. Pay what you can (suggested donation of $10). Get tickets here.

  • York University’s World Music Festival features 10 free concerts in two days presenting a sampling of the 20+ international cultures represented in York’s world music program. Wednesday and Thursday, March 14 and 15, Martin Family Lounge, 219 Accolade East Building Tribute Communities Recital Hall, 112 Accolade East Building.

Health & Wellness

  • Were you selected to participate in the National College Health Assessment (NCHA) survey? Fill it out and help York develop spaces like The Wellness Hub. The first 1500 students to complete the survey will receive a $5 or $10 credit on their YU-card!

  • Workshop: Let’s T.A.L.K – Mental Health. This interactive workshop will raise awareness about some of the mental health and wellness issues faced by students, show you ways you can support those who may be in distress and outline the available support services on campus. Tuesday, March 12, 3 to 4:30pm, Sound & Moving Images Library (SMIL), Room 124, Scott Library. No registration required.

  • Bachelor of Environmental Studies Students’ Association (BESSA) Workshops: Hosted by FES alumna, Tanya Chung-Tiam-Fook, these workshops are designed to be beneficial to the mental health and overall well-being of students and will include a healing circle, mindfulness and embodied movement activities, as well as discussions around the experiences of being a university student.   • The Classrooms to Careers series will arm you with practical information that will help you succeed during the transition from student to professional. This week-long series features career panels with alumni guest speakers, hands-on workshops and presentations. March 18 to 21, various venues. Learn more at the Career Centre’s website.

  • Workshop: Suit Yourself: Personality and Career Choice. Find out how your personality may influence your career choices and clarify important aspects of yourself. Thursday, March 14, 9:30am to 12pm, 103 McLaughlin Centre (Career Centre Presentation Room).

  • Workshop: Learn About Services Offered by Discover Ability Network. Join Discovery Ability Network, powered by Magnet, for a discussion on how to access a variety of resources that will help you gain and keep meaningful employment. This workshop is for students with disabilities only. Thursday, March 14, 9:30 to 10:45am, Bennett Centre for Student Services, Room N204B.

York Pride

  • Show your #YUSpirit on Red & White Day – your opportunity to celebrate our community and York’s sixtieth anniversary! Get involved in Red & White Day at the Keele and Glendon campuses by wearing red and white or York gear or by playing games at the indoor carnival.   • Come share your lion pride and volunteer for Spring Open House on March 30! It is the largest on-campus student recruitment event of the year where we welcome thousands of prospective students to York. You’ll get a York toque, a red York windbreaker, a pizza lunch and a letter of acknowledgement. Register here.

  • York International has launched #YIFeel, a mental health and awareness campaign for international students. Through videoblog posts and visual components, YI aims to initiate a dialogue about mental health among international students at York University.

  • Are you a York University student who identifies as LGBTQ2S+? Thriving on Campus is an Ontario-wide, bilingual, LGBTQ2S+ campus climate study and the results will inform efforts to foster the acceptance of LGBTQS+ students and promote their wellbeing and academic success.
