Health & Wellness

  • Bell Let’s Talk Day is Wednesday, January 29 and York U has events planned to illuminate mental health initiatives at York. Help end the stigma surrounding mental illness by showing your support at these events as well as sharing your thoughts, experiences and support on social media.

    • 5 Ways to Wellness. Join student peer leaders and professional staff and learn a variety of study and wellness tips geared to help you navigate your mental health needs. YU Let’s Talk helps to move forward the conversation towards reducing this stigma of mental illness, while promoting awareness and understanding. Did we mention there would be therapy dogs? That's right, everyone's favourite therapy dogs will be in attendance from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, January 29, 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Archives of Ontario.
    • Attend a Student Mental Health 101 session and learn the skills needed to recognize, respond to and refer peers with mental health concerns to available resources. Sessions are two hours long and led by a Peer Health Educator. Next session: Wednesday, January 29, 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. 280N York Lanes.
    • A Mature Student’s Guide to Stress Management & Healthy Lifestyle. Atkinson Centre for Mature and Part-Time Students (ACMAPS) is hosting this interactive workshop that focuses on stress management and wellness strategies to help you be your best all year round. Thursday, January 30, 11 a.m. to noon. Atkinson Centre for Mature and Part-Time Students. 111 Central Square.

Student Support Services

  • Register today for York’s 11th Annual Inclusion Day. This all-day event will focus on the theme of belonging and explore ways that we can promote a greater sense of belonging at York. The day will include a panel discussion, the launch of the #YUBelong campaign, and presentations from the President’s Advisory Council on Human Rights sub-committees, RISE, SexGen and Enable York. Free admission. Space is limited, so be sure to register at the link above. Tuesday, February 4, 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Helliwell Centre, Osgoode Hall Law School.

Academics

  • Be sure to attend the Pop-Up Advising Fair and get academic advising on-the-spot this Thursday, January 30 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Vari Hall, Lassonde and Glendon’s Centre for Excellence. York International will also be available to assist international students with questions on matters of immigration including study permits, visas, permanent residence and more.

  • Undergraduate Research Fair. Are you proud of a project, essay, or artwork submitted for a York undergrad course between January and December 2019? Was your project graded B+ or higher? The 8th annual Undergraduate Research Fair & Art Walk is coming up! Apply at the link above to present your research and/or artwork. Application Deadline: Friday, January 31.

  • Info Session: How to Prepare for Grad Studies at York. Are you an undergraduate student interested in pursuing a graduate degree in the future? Learn about York’s different graduate studies opportunities, the best ways to prepare while you’re pursuing your undergrad, as well as the ins and outs of the application process! Next Session: Monday, February 3, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Bennett Centre for Student Services, Discover York room (first floor).

Out & About On Campus

  • REDI Workshop Series: Challenging Organizational Structures. The Centre for Human Rights, Equity and Inclusion (REI) at York will be hosting another Respect, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (REDI) workshop series and hopes to engage students, staff and faculty in a valuable knowledge exchange. In this workshop, learn how organizational cultures can perpetuate systemic disadvantages and how engagement can create a positive impact and change. Register here.   • Volunteer & Community Engagement Fair. Develop skills, gain experience and enhance your resume, all while giving back to the community. This fair will showcase over 20 local organizations looking to connect with and recruit students for various volunteer positions. Wednesday, February 5, 10 a.m. to noon. 152 Founders Assembly Hall.

  • Career Conversations Panel with Sociology Alumni. Attend this session and meet York Alumni and other professionals who are putting their Sociology degree to use in a variety of fields. Tuesday, January 28, 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Senate Chambers N940 Ross Building.

  • President’s Community Safety Leadership AwardsDo you know a York community member (e.g. student, staff or faculty member, group or business) who is a safety leader? Do you know an individual or group who goes above and beyond to look out for others, helps to build a safety culture and reduces safety risks? Nominate them for a President’s Community Safety Leadership Award!  Nomination Deadline: Friday, February 28, 2020.
