Announcement

  • 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence. Participate in the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence as we honour those we have lost and reflect on renewing our commitment to take action on ending gender-based violence. Participating in community events and conversations such as these helps to increase public awareness and eliminate gendered violence. November 25 to December 4.

  • National Day of Remembrance & Action on Violence Against Women Virtual Memorial. December 6 is the National Day of Remembrance & Action on Violence Against Women, a day declared by Canada's Parliament as the National Day of Remembrance and Action following the murder of 14 women at L'Ecole Polytechnique in Montreal on December 6, 1989. Join the pan-University memorial ceremony to reflect on this tragedy and remember the 14 victims while recognizing that this systemic issue continues to plague our society. Friday, December 4, 11 a.m. to noon. YouTube livestream link will be available to watch on the main page.

  • Markham Centre Campus (MCC) Virtual Town Hall. Join President Lenton and other York senior leaders in this Virtual Town Hall and learn about our latest plans for the MCC. From its inception, the MCC has been a collaborative endeavour for our community. Health & Wellness

  • REDI Workshop Series: Addressing & Responding to Sexual Harassment. Join this interactive session hosted by the Centre for Human Rights, Equity and Inclusion (CHREI) and to learn strategies and best practices on how to identify, prevent and respond to instances of sexual harassment on campus. Wednesday, November 25, 1:30 to 3 p.m. Registration required.

  • The Issues and Impacts of Misogynoir: Voices of Experience. Misogynoir — the term coined by queer Black feminist Moya Bailey to describe the experiences of prejudice and harassment directed at Black women — is a critical social issue and human rights concern. Spend an hour with The Centre, in partnership with CHREI, as they invite noted speakers to share their experiences and challenges addressing misogynoir. Then, stay for a presentation and break-out discussion about your role in providing space for Black women to address the issues and impacts of misogynoir. Friday, November 27, noon to 1 p.m. Registration required.

  • Safety During COVID-19: Challenges & Strategies for Effective Safety Planning. This presentation from Student Counselling & Development will focus on how the pandemic can uniquely impact survivors of intimate partner violence. General and specific safety-planning strategies will be explored, as well 2;p")o

  • Health Education Workshop: Self-Care Series: Mindful Movement for Those Who Can’t Meditate. Get moving with this physically active workshop and explore mindful movement that supports nervous system regulation and provides a way to sooth and calm your stress responses. This workshop is based on dance/movement psychotherapy, but no movement experience is required. Bonus: attendees will be included in a draw for a $10 to $25 gift certificate! Wednesday, November 25, 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Registration required.

  • Call for student volunteers: The Office of Student Community Relations (OSCR) is accepting applications for student members on the York University Tribunal (UT). UT student, faculty and staff members sit on hearing panels to adjudicate breaches of York's non-academic Code of Student Rights and Responsibilities and review appeals of Local Adjudication and Tribunal Hearing decisions. This appointment is for a two-year term. Read the full posting and application instructions on the OSCR website. Application Deadline: Tuesday, December 15.

  • Leadership Workshop: Digital Leadership & Universal Design. Attend this workshop to practice your digital leadership skills, learn tips on how to improve your online service delivery and run meaningful presentations, workshops and meetings.   • Leadership Workshop: Framing Your Narrative as a Leader. Join this workshop and explore ways to make you and your message more compelling through a mix of storytelling and fact-framing.   • SCLD Game NightsUnwind, take a break from schoolwork and meet new people by dropping into Student Community & Leadership Development's weekly game nights! They'll be offering a variety of games such as Among us, Scribbl.io and Jackbox games. These game nights will be led by students on the Student Engagement Ambassador Team.
