  • York University to Build Markham Centre Campus: “We have continued to advance the important longer-term initiatives that will help to build and secure our future, like the Markham Centre Campus (MCC). Today marks a bright spot, encouraging us to look ahead to 2023 when the doors to the much-anticipated MCC will open to students.” Read the full message from President Rhonda Lenton (En français).

  • Virtual Town Hall. Join President Rhonda Lenton and other York senior leaders at this all-community Virtual Town Hall. The panel will answer questions from students, staff and faculty concerning academic, research and professional work. Health & Wellness

  • Health Education Trainings & Workshops SurveyHealth Ed is already offering an online certification program in suicide awareness through Living Work and they want to hear what kinds of workshops you want to see in the Fall term. Whether you are interested in improving your health and well-being, personal development or supporting others, they want to hear from you! Would you attend a mental health workshop that focused on a customized self-care plan or one focused on self-compassion for perfectionist tendencies? Let them know by filling out the survey.

  • Virtual Mature Student Meditation (Mindful Meditation). Join this virtual mindful meditation session facilitated by psychologist Scott Pope from Student Counselling & Development. It will help you de-stress, decrease loneliness and increase positivity. Thursday, July 30, 1 to 1:45 p.m.

  • ACMAPS Event Schedule.  Are you a mature student at York U? Are you interested in meditation or attending a casual, drop-in based café hour to meet other mature students or a mature student peer mentor? Check the schedule at the link above and attend any session you wish, via Zoom.

  • Career Centre Webinar: Ways to Make Money While Studying. Attend this session and hear about how you can earn income and gain valuable work experience as a student.   • Webinar: On the Job SuccessIn this webinar, you will learn tips on how to make a great first impression and what to expect the first few days at a new job.   • Learning Skills Services Workshop: Memory. In this webinar, you’ll learn techniques that can help you transfer all that course work information into your long-term memory, along with the strategies you’ll need to retrieve the information when you most need it. Wednesday, July 29, 2 to 3 p.m.

  • Peer Academic Coaching. If you are looking for individual support to help you achieve your academic goals, meet with one of the Learning Skills Services’ Peers for a 30-minute remote one-to-one session to discuss strategies including how to develop and stick to a realistic time management plan and how to tackle your readings, assignments and exams. Sessions are by appointment only, Tuesdays 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and Thursdays 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

International Connections

  • York International Event: Virtual Summer CarnivalYork International is hosting one final party of Summer 2020! The Virtual Carnival Party will feature trivia, Brazilian Samba and some competitive games! YI welcomes all members of the York community to put on their party hats and bring their competitive spirit to celebrate the end of the summer! Friday, August 7, 8 a.m. and/or 6:00 p.m.

  • York 101 Video: Netiquette. This video talks about ‘netiquette’ and its importance while attending classes online. The video also looks at Zoom backgrounds, handling distractions and other tips for attending online classes.

  • Fall/Winter 2020-2021 course enrolment. Courses this fall will be, for the most part delivered online and remotely, and course enrolment for continuing undergraduate students has begun.   • Statement regarding private tutoring companies that claim an affiliation with York University: It has come to our attention that certain private tutoring companies are making claims that they are affiliated with York University. York has no affiliation with any of these companies, who are illegally passing themselves off as connected to or endorsed by York. Read the complete statement.

  • York unveiled its University Academic Plan 2020-2025. The Plan lays out a pathway for creating positive change for our students, our campuses, and our local and global communities. In the midst of a global pandemic and international mobilization against anti-Black racism, the Plan recognizes that York University brings distinctive capabilities to help meet the challenges of today and tomorrow and to uncover the opportunities that lie within them. The document affirms York’s core values of academic and educational excellence, diversity and inclusivity, social justice and equity, progressive thinking and environmental sustainability.

  • When thinking about full year courses for next year, don’t forget to check out the award-winning C4: The Cross-Campus Capstone Classroom. This unique learning opportunity brings together students at the third-, fourth-, and fifth-year levels to work in interdisciplinary teams on real-world challenges with social impact.
