Health & Wellness

  • Thursday, January 28 is Bell Let’s Talk Day. Several York units and departments have organized virtual events to help raise awareness about resources and support available to students. In addition to the events below, be sure to check in with your Faculty or College to see if they have any virtual events planned for Bell Let’s Talk week as well!   • Bell Let's Talk Events: 

    • Colouring HangoutJoin in and learn how to use journaling and colouring to help you with your mental health. Download your virtual colouring sheet and bring some art supplies and/or a pencil! Tuesday, January 26, 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. You can find the Zoom link in the schedule linked above. Drop-ins welcome!
    • Healthy Meals with a NutritionistJoin Sport Dietitian Katie Jessop to learn about low-budget, high-quality protein meals. Any and all questions about nutrition are encouraged.     • Hatha Yoga & Meditation Class in collaboration with the York chapters of Jack.org and Peace by PEACE. Join the York chapter of Jack.org and Athletics & Recreation in an all-levels Vinyasa Yoga session to help support your self-care routine to prioritize student mental health. This medium-intensity session will involve a flowing style class to deepen your understanding of postures, breathing and relaxation to strengthen the body and reduce stress. Link movement with breathing to help guide your body into a moving meditation to allow for deeper presence and confidence on and off the mat. Wednesday, January 27, 6 to 7 p.m. Registration required at reconline.yorkulions.ca.
  • Share your Bubble! Share your virtual Bell Let’s Talk bubble and tag @yorkulions! Participate for a chance to win a Bell Let’s Talk toque! Complete your bubble via the Virtual Photobooth and then view the Virtual Gallery once you’ve submitted it! Also, all members of the I AM A LION Ambassador Program that share their bubble and hashtag #LionsAmbassador will receive an Ambassador virtual stamp and be entered to win a toque as well.   • There are a number of Health Education Workshops taking place this week. Sign up for one that interests you! If you can’t make it, check out their calendar to see when these events will be offered again.

    Virtual Mental Health 101Learn how to support your peers with mental health concerns. It will also provide a safe online space for discussion and education about self-care practices, healthy boundaries and more. Wednesday, January 27, 1 to 2 p.m. Registration required.

  • Save the Date: Sexual Violence Response Education Week. Join the Centre for Sexual Violence Response, Support & Education as they raise awareness about Sexual Violence Response from Friday, February 5 to Friday, February 12. Take a look through the itinerary and sign up for virtual workshops, panels and training open to all students.

Academics

  • Celebrate other students at the annual Experiential Education (EE) Symposium, which showcases experiential education at York and celebrates the achievements of students who have participated in EE. This year’s virtual event will consist of opening remarks from the President and York staff, a student/faculty panel presentation and students presenting their projects in the form of posters.   • York International Workshops: Let’s Talk Academic Advising! Learn how academic advising can help you.   • View the York International Events Calendar for the full Virtual Coffee Break weekly schedule. YI’s daily Virtual Coffee Breaks are an online space for international and domestic students from across programs, Faculties, countries and cultures to connect and get to know each other! Student Leaders are on Zoom every weekday with different fun and interesting topics. When you sign up, a confirmation email with the zoom link will be sent to you upon registration.

  • Workshop: Critical Thinking. Dive into styles of learning that go beyond just memorizing facts and figures.   • Workshop: Guide to Remote Learning. Attend this session and learn how to build your skills and knowledge about remote learning. Mature Student Support

  • Mature Student Workshop: Time Management for Mature Students. Join this session co-hosted by Learning Skills Services and the Atkinson Centre for Mature & Part-time Students (ACMAPS) to learn practical, personalized approaches to managing your time. Get tips to manage and balance school, work and life. Wednesday, January 27, 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Registration required.

  • Student-Parents' Get Together. If you're a student-parent, this session is a safe place to create new connections with other parents who are also students, with a sneak peek into new event ideas for the new term. Friday, January 29, noon to 1 p.m. Registration required. Once registered, you'll receive the Zoom link.

  • Mature Student Event Schedule. Are you a mature student at York? Are you interested in meditation or attending a casual, drop-in café hour to meet other mature students or a mature student peer mentor? Check the schedule at the link above and attend any session you wish, via Zoom.

Connect with Community

  • The last Clubs 101 session for the 2020-21 Academic Session. This virtual event is intended for student organizations who are looking to ratify their club with Student Community & Leadership Development.  The session will provide foundational knowledge about registration, marketing, fundraising, university policies and more. It's also a great opportunity to meet other student leaders on campus. Attendance is mandatory for all clubs who plan to complete registration. Thursday, January 28, 1:30 to 3 p.m. Registration required. Space per session is limited, however multiple representatives may attend.

  • Apply for the ninth Undergraduate Research Fair and Art Walk online! Applications are now open to student applicants. The Fair honours student researchers and provides you with an opportunity to share work that creates positive change. Fair participants will design a poster and present the results of a course research essay or project to the York community in a friendly, cross-curricular environment. Application Deadline: Sunday, January 31.

  • Register for the upcoming 2021 Winter Spark Leadership Summit! Hosted by the office of Student Community & Leadership Development (SCLD), in collaboration with Alumni Engagement, the Career Centre, & the Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies. The theme this year is transitioning out of university life, or into your next academic year during/post-pandemic. With multiple sessions to choose from, the summit is designed to both SPARK leadership and career potential for York students. Registration Deadline: Wednesday, February 3, noon.

  • Save the Date: All-Community Virtual Town Hall. Join President Rhonda Lenton and other York senior leaders at this all-community Virtual Town Hall. The panel will answer questions from students, staff, instructors and faculty concerning the upcoming months. Submit your questions in advance using this Virtual Town Hall question submission formMonday, February 8, 9:30 to 10:45 a.m.

  • Student Accessibility Services continues to meet with students virtually! Students already registered with Student Accessibility Services can connect with their Accessibility Counsellor by email or via sasinfo@yorku.ca.

    To learn more, join one of their Information Sessions on the first Monday of each month from noon to 1 p.m.  You can find the Zoom link on the York Events Calendar. If you are interested in registering with Student Accessibility Services, visit the New Students page on their website.

  • Writing Centre One-To-One and Drop-in Appointments. The Writing Centre invites you to bring any writing related to academics to a 50-minute one-on-one appointment with a writing expert. They’re open Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. If you don't have time for a full appointment, drop in for a 15-minute session to have a question answered. They’re always happy to help.
