  • Inclusion Days 2021. Join the Centre for Human Rights, Equity & Inclusion in a series of free talks and interactive, skills-based workshops to explore and engage with belonging as a concept and a nexus between equity, diversity, and inclusion.   • All-Community Virtual Town Hall. Join President Rhonda Lenton and other York senior leaders at this all-community Virtual Town Hall to discuss the Framework and Draft Action Plan on Black Inclusion. The panel will answer questions from students, staff, instructors and faculty concerning the upcoming months.   • Workshop: Healthy Relationships, Boundaries & Needs (Platonic & Romantic)Join this online workshop and learn about building healthy relationships by discussing topics such as how relationships change, red flags to look out for, signs of healthy relationships, creating boundaries and meeting people at York. Thursday, March 18, 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Registration required.   • Workshop: Virtual Mental Health 101. Register for this workshop where you’ll learn ways to support your peers with mental health concerns. It will also provide a safe online space for discussion and education about self-care practices, healthy boundaries and more. Friday, March 19, 10 to 11 a.m. Registration required.   • Workshop: Overcoming ProcrastinationAttend this online session and learn some tips and strategies to help you overcome procrastination, and how it is related to both our mental and physical health. Monday, March 22, 1 to 2 p.m. Registration required.   • Workshop: Mastering Sleep During Covid-19In this workshop you'll explore the impact that poor sleep has on our bodies, minds and academics, especially within the context of the pandemic. Tuesday, March 23, 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Registration required.   • Luminate Mental Health Conference Series. Register for this two-day conference and learn about current research in the mental health field. Watch an engaging keynote speech, participate in thought-provoking panel discussions on personally relevant topics with faculty and student special guests and view your peers’ research at the Virtual Research Fair. Wednesday, March 24 and Thursday, March 25. Registration required.

Learning Skills

  • Writing Workshop: Revising your Sentences. Log into this online workshop and learn tips on how to compel readers with well-crafted and direct writing. Thursday, March 18, 1:30 to 3 p.m. Drop-Ins Welcome!

  • Writing Centre One-To-One and Drop-in Appointments. The Writing Centre invites you to bring any academics-related writing to a 50-minute one-to-one appointment with a writing expert. They’re open Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. If you don't have time for a full appointment, drop in for a 15-minute session to have a question answered. They’re always happy to help.

Careers Support

  • Career Education & Development Alumni Guest Speaker Event. Alumni Career Chats are designed to assist York students and new graduates in making connections, building their professional network and gaining industry insights. This event features Alexandra Sorichetti (BA '11), training specialist at the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario. Thursday, March 18, 2 to 3 p.m. Registration required on Experience York.

  • Career Conversations Panel: Discovering Careers as a Mature Student. Connect with accomplished professionals who were Mature Students at York! During this panel, alumni will share their personal stories about breaking into the field, how their career paths took them from graduation to where they are now, and what knowledge, skills and experience helped them succeed in their jobs. Wednesday, March 24, 2 to 4 p.m. Registration required.

  • YSpace Event: Founder Fundamentals: Social Media Strategies. Attend these virtual workshops that are designed to help you kickstart your entrepreneurial career. Social media has become vital for any business. In most cases founders are not social media and marketing experts but with some training, you can learn how to build an effective social media strategy to help maximize your success. Thursday, March 18, 6 to 8 p.m. Registration required.

  • Entrepreneurial Alumni Speaker Series: Disruption & Pivots: Shape your Career Despite Uncertainty. Join this three-part series, where speakers will dive into their experiences as an entrepreneur, exploring their success, failure and lessons.   • Panel Discussion: Climate Action: The Roles of Research. This roundtable brings together three emerging researchers from a range of disciplines to discuss what it means to research the ways humans are transforming the planet now. Join as they explore the difficulties we face along with some of the possible avenues for establishing a sustainable future. Wednesday, March 24, 10:30 a.m. to noon. Registration required.

  • Call for Nominations: The Robert Everett Exceptional Leadership in Student Governance Award 2021. Do you know a York student actively engaged in governance life, whose efforts and contributions are making a difference at the University? Recipients of the award will have a notation included on their transcript, receive a certificate and have their name included on a plaque placed in the Dr. Robert Everett Senate Chamber. Nomination Deadline: Friday, March 26.

  • Collision Conference 2021. Become a Digital Ambassador and claim your free ticket to North America’s fastest growing tech conference! Typically, attendees must pay $79 to attend this event. For the second year in a row, Innovation York and the Student Success Office are joining forces to offer York students the exclusive opportunity to claim one free ticket (with 100 total tickets available on a first-come, first-served basis). Registration Deadline: Friday, March 26.

  • Announcement: Restricting Use of Online Proctoring for Examinations. In response to some challenges associated with online proctoring of exams, and in accordance with the principle of maintaining the highest standards of academic integrity in the examination process, York University Senate Executive have made the decision that, effective for the Summer 2021 terms and for the duration of the disruption caused by COVID-19, any form of online proctoring will not be used except in exceptional circumstances. Read the complete statement here.

  • Safe Exam Browser. With the removal of online proctoring is the introduction of Safe Exam Browser (SEB), a customized web browser that may be enabled by instructors for use during online quizzes and exams. SEB differs from online proctoring tools because activity is not monitored, and no data is recorded. Read more about Safe Exam Browser here.

  • Check out the new Student Guide to Group Work! This eLearning resource is designed to help you learn the fundamentals of group work, through four short videos and a variety of downloadable tools and resources.

  • Provost’s Postdoctoral Fellowships for Black & Indigenous Scholars at York UniversityYork is excited to launch a new Postdoctoral Fellowship Program for Black and Indigenous Scholars, as part of the commitment to promoting justice and embracing a variety of scholarly perspectives, backgrounds and lived experiences. The program will offer emerging scholars from a wide range of disciplines access to the financial support, mentorship and career development opportunities needed to build the foundation for a successful professional future. Application Deadline: Thursday, April 1.
