Health & Wellness

  • The Division of Students has aligned its services to better support your mental health and well-being. Student Counselling & Development (SCD) and Health Education & Promotion (HEP) are now operating as one unit under the new name Student Counselling, Health & Well-being (SCHW).

  • Fourth Annual Trans-Gathering Workshop. Choose what Jay Jonah speaks about in this choose-your-own-adventure-style workshop organized by SCHW and The Centre for Sexual Violence Response, Support & Education. All topics related to being trans or non-binary are open for discussion. Possible topics can include surgery, recovery, hormones, coming out during COVID-19, misgendering and dysphoria. Bring your questions and leave with information and perhaps some new friends. Participation is encouraged but not required. Tuesday, March 24, 4 to 5:30 p.m. Registration required.

  • Workshop:Cultivating Self-Compassion for Perfectionist Tendencies. Join this workshop designed to address negative beliefs and thoughts through self-compassion activities. Explore how self-kindness and mindfulness can help you overcome setbacks as well as re-frame new approaches to goal setting and stress reduction. Thursday, March 25, noon to 1 p.m. Bonus: Participants will be entered to win an Uber Eats gift card.

  • Workshop: Taking Effective Breaks for Exam SeasonTaking study breaks can help you re-energize, but what you do during those breaks can really make a difference. Join this session and learn some practical ways to engage in self-care and enhance your energy levels this exam season. Friday, March 26, 2 to 3 p.m. Registration required.   • Self-Care: Virtual Therapy Dogs. Log in and virtually meet some furry friends from St. John’s Ambulance! Stop by the Health Education & Promotion Zoom Room for some puppy self-care. Monday, March 29, 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Registration required.

  • Luminate Mental Health Conference Series. Register for this two-day conference and learn about current research in the mental health field. Watch an engaging keynote speech delivered by an expert in the field, participate in thought-provoking panel discussions on personally relevant topics with faculty and student special guests and view your peers’ research at the Virtual Research Fair. Wednesday, March 24 and Thursday, March 25. Registration required.

Connect with Community

  • YU Take Care. This series is for student club members to take time away from their busy schedules to meet each other and practice self-care. Learn new forms of self-care and tips on how to be able to practice them anywhere! This week's session will be all about Meditation. Wednesday, March 24 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Registration required.

  • SCLD Interfaith Conversations (IFC). Join these bi-weekly virtual meetings where you can connect with students from different beliefs and backgrounds and engage in dialogues among different faiths through fun activities. IFC is open for all students to join. At every IFC, a student club will host an activity that sparks fun and interesting conversations. Wednesday, March 24, 1 to 2 p.m. Registration required.

  • Clubs Showcase Event. Attend this fun bi-weekly hangout where SCLD collaborates with student clubs to connect with each other and the wider York community. The next Showcase will spotlight the Undergraduate Psychology Student Association (UPSA). In this session, UPSA will be hosting a trivia activity where you can test your general psychology knowledge. If you're not a Psychology major, don't worry! All students are welcome. Tuesday, March 30, 3 to 4 p.m. Registration required.

  • Panel Discussion: Climate Action: The Roles of Research. This roundtable brings together three emerging researchers from a range of disciplines to discuss what it means to research the ways humans are transforming the planet now. Join as they explore the difficulties we face along with some of the possible avenues for establishing a sustainable future. Wednesday, March 24, 10:30 a.m. to noon. Registration required.

  • Panel Discussion: Reducing Inequalities: An Urgent Call for ActionTo advance social justice, graduate students at York are discovering new approaches to dismantling the ideologies which promote progress through disadvantage and the systemic (re)production of inequality. This panel, comprised of an educator, actor and disability advocate, will highlight some of the most pressing issues facing our society, while exploring how our researchers are taking action. Tuesday, March 30, 3 to 4:30 p.m. Registration required.

  • Call for Nominations: The Robert Everett Exceptional Leadership in Student Governance Award 2021. Do you know a York student actively engaged in governance life, whose efforts and contributions are making a difference at the University? Recipients of the award will have a notation included on their transcript, receive a certificate and have their name included on a plaque placed in the Dr. Robert Everett Senate Chamber. Nomination Deadline: Friday, March 26.

  • Collision Conference 2021. Become a Digital Ambassador and claim your free ticket to North America’s fastest growing tech conference. Typically, attendees must pay $79 to attend this event.   • Real Talk Live with Ahmed IsmailJoin this livestream discussion hosted by York Alumna Ginella Massa, where guest Ahmed Ismail will engage in a discussion about his journey overcoming challenges and becoming a global influencer. He will also talk about the challenges to mental health and well-being facing marginalized communities across Canada. Saturday, March 27, 4 to 6 p.m. Drop-Ins welcome!

Mature Student Support

  • Career Conversations Panel: Discovering Careers as a Mature Student. Connect with accomplished professionals who attended York as mature students! During this panel, alumni will share their personal stories about breaking into the field, how their career paths took them from graduation to where they are now, and what knowledge, skills and experience helped them succeed in their jobs. Wednesday, March 24, 2 to 4 p.m. Registration required.

  • Provost’s Postdoctoral Fellowships for Black & Indigenous Scholars at York UniversityYork is excited to launch a new Postdoctoral Fellowship Program for Black and Indigenous Scholars, as part of the commitment to promoting justice and embracing a variety of scholarly perspectives, backgrounds and lived experiences. The program will offer emerging scholars from a wide range of disciplines access to the financial support, mentorship and career development opportunities needed to build the foundation for a successful professional future. Application Deadline: Thursday, April 1.

  • Writing Centre One-To-One and Drop-in Appointments. The Writing Centre invites you to bring any academics-related writing to a 50-minute one-to-one appointment with a writing expert. They’re open Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. If you don't have time for a full appointment, drop in for a 15-minute session to have a question answered. They’re always happy to help.
