Announcement

  • York University Waste Survey. York is committed to sustainability and contributing to the UN's Sustainable Development Goals as part of the University Academic Plan. The Office of Sustainability has partnered with an Environmental and Urban Change graduate student to engage students on waste reduction to create positive change. Please complete this short 10-minute survey about waste at York. Open to all current York students. Please complete before Friday, April 9.

  • Employment Opportunities: The Division of Students is hiring two positions for Summer 2021 for the positions of Graphic Design & Multimedia Assistant and a Digital Communications Assistant. Review the full job descriptions and apply on the Student Job Postings page.

  • There are also several positions available for students right now with teams such as Career Education & Development and Residence Life! Connect with Community

  • Clubs Showcase Event. Attend this fun bi-weekly hangout where Student Community & Leadership Development (SCLD) collaborates with student clubs to connect with each other and the wider York community. The next Showcase will spotlight the Undergraduate Psychology Student Association (UPSA). In this session, UPSA will be hosting a trivia activity where you can test your general psychology knowledge. If you're not a Psychology major, don't worry! All students are welcome. Tuesday, March 30, 3 to 4 p.m. Registration required.

  • Panel Discussion: Reducing Inequalities: An Urgent Call for ActionTo advance social justice, graduate students at York are discovering new approaches to dismantling the ideologies which promote progress through disadvantage and the systemic (re)production of inequality. This panel, comprised of an educator, actor and disability advocate, will highlight some of the most pressing issues facing our society, while exploring how our researchers are taking action. Tuesday, March 30, 3 to 4:30 p.m. Registration required.

  • Indigenous Circle: Understanding Healing Processes: An Indigenous Perspective. Attend this workshop and learn more about Indigenous peoples, cultures and communities. In this session, you'll learn about the fundamental historical background to understanding Indigenous outlooks and scientific studies that support Indigenous peoples’ contributions to mental wellness. Wednesday, March 31, 4 to 6 p.m. Registration required.

  • Provost’s Postdoctoral Fellowships for Black & Indigenous Scholars at York UniversityYork is excited to launch a new Postdoctoral Fellowship Program for Black and Indigenous Scholars, as part of the commitment to promoting justice and embracing a variety of scholarly perspectives, backgrounds and lived experiences. The program will offer emerging scholars from a wide range of disciplines access to the financial support, mentorship and career development opportunities needed to build the foundation for a successful professional future. Application Deadline: Thursday, April 1.

Learning Skills

  • Learning Skills Services (LSS) Workshop: Exam Prep for Mature Students. Join this session and learn how to effectively prepare for all types of exams, including multiple choice, short answer, calculations, essay-style and more. Wednesday, March 31, 3 to 4 p.m. Registration required.

  • Workshop: Memory. Log into this workshop and learn techniques that will help you transfer all your course work information into your long-term memory, along with the strategies you’ll need to retrieve the information when you most need it. Thursday, April 1, 10 to 11 a.m. Registration required.

  • Workshop: Reading & Note-taking. In this workshop, you'll learn more effective reading and note-taking techniques to help you stay on top of your course work. Monday, April 5, noon to 1 p.m. Registration required.

Health & Wellness

  • Mindful Meditation. Take a step back from your day and join this session for some help with de-stressing, decreasing loneliness and increasing positivity. Thursday, April 1, 1 to 1:45 p.m. Drop-Ins Welcome!

  • ICYMI: The Division of Students has aligned its services to better support your mental health and well-being. Student Counselling & Development (SCD) and Health Education & Promotion (HEP) are now operating as one unit under the new name Student Counselling, Health & Well-being (SCHW).

  • Workshop: Virtual Mental Health 101. Join this workshop and learn ways to support your peers with mental health concerns. It will also provide a safe online space for discussion and education about self-care practices, healthy boundaries and more. Thursday, April 1, 10 to 11 a.m. Registration required. Bonus: Participants will be entered to win an Uber Eats gift card.

  • Workshop: Nutrition for Plant-Based Diets. Attend this session and join the Peer Health Educators as they discuss the importance of nutrition for those who may be mostly making plant-based, vegan or vegetarian choices. Tuesday April 6, 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Registration required.   • Workshop: Mindful Movement for Those Who Can’t Meditate. Log in and take part in this physically active workshop, where you’ll explore mindful movement techniques that support nervous system regulation.   • Writing Centre One-To-One and Drop-in Appointments. The Writing Centre invites you to bring any academics-related writing to a 50-minute one-to-one appointment with a writing expert. They’re open Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. If you don't have time for a full appointment, drop in for a 15-minute session to have a question answered. They’re always happy to help.
