Black History Month

  • Black History Month 2022 events:

    Black Health and Disability. Learn about the reflections of scholars and activists on the connection between racism, colonialism, and ableism and how the social structure contributes to the disablement of the Black communities and creates health inequalities. In addition, the panel will highlight the socio-determinants of people in the Black communities who are living with an (in)visible disability. Thursday, Feb. 17, 4 to 4:50 p.m. Registration required.

  • Second Annual Nellie Library Undergraduate Student Conference & Poetry Slam. Are you a third- or fourth-year undergraduate student at York, working on or submitted a compelling project in the Fall/Winter 2021-2022 term? If your work engages with feminist, anti-racist, intersectional, interdisciplinary, and/or decolonizing approaches, The Nellie invites you to apply to participate.     • On the Job Success. Learn how to create great first impressions as well as what to expect the first few days on the job, how to increase your chances of workplace success, how to communicate assertively, and handle difficult situations effectively.     • Perfecting Your Cover Letter. This session will provide you with cover letter writing techniques, including writing effective cover letter introductions to grab the attention of the reader, using expository writing and the Situation-Action-Result (SAR) formula to share stories, and making your personal experiences and achievements relevant to the work of a company. Friday, Feb. 18, 1 to 2 p.m. Registration required through Experience York.

  • Healthy Relationships & Better Boundaries. This workshop provides you with a guide on building healthy relationships by discussing topics such as how relationships change, red flags to look out for, foundations for a healthy relationship, creating better boundaries, and meeting people at York. Money Matters

  • Improving the Economy While Enhancing the Environment Dialogue (IEEED). The IEEED speaker series will bring experts from academia, the media, and other professional organizations together to speak to students about how we might improve the economy and protect the environment. The series will present topics on climate solutions, sustainability, and more. Feb. 16 to March. 23, 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. Registration required.
