Announcement

  • After much learning, reflection and listening, the President’s Advisory Council on Equity, Diversity and Inclusion has prepared a Draft Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Strategy for feedback from the York Community. Feedback can be provided via the website or through feedback sessions on Monday, March 28, 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. or Tuesday, March 29, 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Registration required.

    This Draft EDI Strategy reflects York University’s long-standing commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion, and aims to lead to further development of equitable, diverse and inclusive communities, creating a place where everyone feels they belong.

    The impact of community feedback will be shared as part of the launch of York’s first EDI Strategy later this year.

  • ACADEMIC AND LEARNING SKILLS

    • Writing Centre Survey: The Writing Centre needs your input about their appointments, workshops, and resources for Fall 2022. Fill out the survey for a chance to be one of five winners to receive a York Bookstore gift card worth $20.
    • Managing Academic Stress (Hosted by Bethune College). Are you feeling overwhelmed by workload, struggling to get good grades, or looking for better ways to manage the daily grind? Learn strategies for handling the anxieties and stresses of university life. Wednesday, March 23, 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Registration required.
    • Exam Prep (hosted by the Centre for Indigenous Student Services). Multiple choice, short answer, calculations, or essay style – which form is your personal nemesis? Whatever the format, midterms or finals, if you could use some help in preparing for exams, then this workshop is for you! Thursday, March 24, 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Registration required.
    • Memory. Learn techniques to help you transfer all that course work information into your long-term memory, along with the strategies you’ll need to retrieve the information when you most need it. Friday, March 25, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Registration required.
    • Learning Power. This workshop will help you explore your own learning preferences, and introduce you to the top, research-supported learning strategies. Tuesday, March 29, 1 to 2 p.m. Registration required.
    • Learn the Basics of Blog Writing. This workshop will cover the basics of how and why more companies are choosing to blog about their products/services. Learn about the basics of blog writing from research to publication, how to speak to a specific target audience, and how you can get started. Monday, March 29, 2 to 3 p.m. Registration required.

Health & Wellness

    • Luminate Student Mental Health & Wellbeing Conference. Register for this online, three-day student-centric conference to learn about mental health research. Watch an engaging keynote speech delivered by an expert in the field, attend panel discussions featuring faculty and student guest speakers, participate in a skills workshop relevant to student life, and view your peers' research at this Virtual Student Research Fair. Wednesday, March 23 to Friday, March 25. Registration required.

    • A Self-Compassion Guide to Procrastination/ Perfectionism. This one-hour peer-led session will cover what exactly procrastination is, debunk procrastination and perfectionist myths, and how to cultivate compassion for both tendencies.     • Workshop: Sexual Health 101. Health Ed Peers will provide you with all the 101 knowledge you may need about sexual health, consent, and safe sex practices.     • Workshop: Mindful Practices for Exam Anxiety. Meet with other peers who share best practices and tried and tested methods on supporting you through your finals. Friday, March 25, 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Registration required.

Careers Support

    • Ernest C. Mercier Lecture in Entrepreneurial Science: Bracing for the Entrepreneurial Thrillride. The Lassonde School of Engineering and Schulich School of Business welcome Dan Tzotzis (BBA '02, MBA '10), co-founder of AWAKE Chocolate, to present this year's lecture on what to expect as a new entrepreneur and some of the lessons he has picked up to help manage an entrepreneur's roller coaster life.     • United Nations World Water Day: Career Networking with Professionals in the Water Sciences. Student voices are essential in progressing and solving water issues. Join this conversation and network with professionals in water sciences industry and learn about a variety of career opportunities. Friday, March 25, noon to 1 p.m. Registration required.
    • Visit the Career Lounge! Career Peer Educators will be available at the Career Lounge to help with any career-related questions! Support is available in-person on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 202 McLaughlin College or virtually on Mondays and Fridays via Zoom. No appointment required.
    • Ways to Make Money While Studying. Are you looking for ways to make money and gain experience? Learn about a variety of sources for on- or off-campus employment and understand how to tap into the "hidden" job market. Thursday, March 24, 10 to 11:30 a.m. Register through Experience York.
    • Student Job Opportunities. Join the Communications & Marketing Team in the Division of Students for Summer 2022. Available are various student-staff roles in digital marketing, graphic design, social media, web programming, and communications and marketing.
