Learning Skills

    • Memory. Learn techniques to help you transfer all that course work information into your long-term memory, along with the strategies you’ll need to retrieve the information when you most need it. Wednesday, April 6, 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Registration required.
    • Strategic Thinking & Leadership. Are you in need of leadership inspiration, or collaborative thinking? Are you looking for opportunities to connect with your team? In this workshop, learn how to lead a team to work towards a common goal. Wednesday, April 6, 2 to 3 p.m. Registration required.
    • Managing Academic Stress. Are you feeling overwhelmed by the workload, struggling to get good grades, or looking for better ways to handle the daily grind? Learn strategies for handling the anxieties and stresses of university life. Wednesday, April 6, 3 to 4 p.m. Registration required.

    • Newly Admitted: The Transfer Process with the Faculty of LA&PS. Are you a new transfer student in the Faculty of LA&PS for Summer 2022? If yes, this session is for you! Attend and understand the transfer credit assessment, terminologies used on the assessment, various roles of university staff, how credits are allocated at York depending on your program, how much time you will be spending at York to complete your degree, what is a program checklist and why is it important. Thursday, April 7, noon to 1 p.m. Registration required.
    • Exam Prep. Multiple choice, short answer, calculations, or essay style – which form is your personal nemesis? Whatever the format, midterms or finals, if you could use some help in preparing for exams, then this workshop is for you! Thursday, April 7, 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Registration required.
    • Online Session: Writing Workshop Series for Graduate Students. Join this workshop to develop and refine a writing routine, learn concrete writing strategies, discover tools for seeking and processing feedback, and provide techniques for finishing revisions. This week’s topic is “Now What? Revision as a Way of Life”. Friday, April 8, 10 a.m. to noon. Registration required.
    • Conflict Management. Learn to define conflict and how it may arise. Learn active listening skills and the critical role you can play in effective communication, and ultimately, conflict resolution. By attending this workshop, you will develop the skills necessary to identify, mediate, and resolve conflicts. Friday, April 8, 11 a.m. to noon. Registration required.
    • How to Change Your Program Workshop. This workshop session will help you learn about what a program change is and whether it is a good fit for you, the types of changes, eligibility requirements for programs, and a step-by-step guide on how to change your program. Monday, April 11, 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Registration required.

    • Student Well-being Podcast Work/Study Positions: This summer, Student Counselling, Health & Well-being (SCHW) is hiring work/study students to host, coordinate, and edit the new Student Well-being Podcast set to debut later in 2022! These unique opportunities will offer valuable experience with interviewing, writing, content creation, and more. Learn about the positions on the SCHW website.     • Illumiti Jr. Consulting Recruiting Event. This virtual event is an opportunity to connect and engage with the Illumiti consulting team and hiring managers.     • Careers in Insurance: Ask a Recruiter. This session will feature a brief introduction to the P&C insurance industry, followed by a live Q and A from two experienced insurance recruiters on what they look for in a candidate.
