  • York Strategic Research Plan Open Forum. Have your say about the development of the York Strategic Research Plan 2023-2028. Join Vice-President Research & Innovation, Amir Asif for an open forum to launch the consultation process for the University’s Strategic Research Plan.   • National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is an important day to remind us to pause and reflect on the intergenerational harm that the Residential School systems caused to Indigenous Peoples across the country. We encourage all community members to take a minute of silence on Friday, Sept. 30 to reflect on what steps they will take towards reconciliation.

  • Reflecting on the Legacies of Residential Schools: What it means for our present and our futures. Join this panel discussion on Reflecting on the Legacies of Residential Schools and discuss what it means for our present and our futures. Friday, Sept. 30, 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Registration not required.

  • The School of the Arts, Media, Performance & Design (AMPD) is proud to present the Year of the Arts – a curated set of events, exhibitions, instillations and performances to showcase leading research and creations in diverse communities. Events kick off this week in time for Nuit Blanche, Toronto’s all-night celebration of contemporary art with a multi-site exhibition, symposium, book launch and more.   • Media Creation Lab (MCL) Launch Event. Be one of the first to see York’s new MCL! There will be four interactive stations placed throughout the Scott Library atrium where you will have the opportunity for hands-on access to audio and video recording equipment and virtual reality headsets, guided by MCL staff. Tuesday, Oct. 4, 1 to 4 p.m. Scott Library Atrium. Registration not required.

  • Student Accounts Lifecycle. If you will no longer be enrolled in courses at York, your student computing accounts will enter an expiry process. Ensure that you have downloaded and backed up your files onto your own personal devices. For more information, visit the UIT website.

  • The Office of the University Registrar’s (OUR) Student Advisory Committee (SAC) applications are now open! Apply now for the SAC, which brings together students with diverse backgrounds and experiences to share their thoughts on OUR projects, policies and initiatives. Build your leadership skills, community connections and be a positive force for strengthening your student services. Application Deadline: Monday, Oct. 3.

International Student Support

  • President’s International Student Welcome Reception. Join this reception and meet York University President Rhonda Lenton and forge lasting new connections with your fellow peers. Thursday, Oct. 6, 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Second Student Centre. Registration required.

  • Moving Forward: Making the Most of Your International Student Experience. Learn tips and tricks from York graduates who were international students themselves. The panelists will share resources that supported them during their time at York and talk about what a difference their York degree has made in their life and career. Thursday, Sept. 29, noon to 1 p.m. Registration required.

Student Support Services

  • BIPOC Wellness Series. Student Counselling, Health & Well-being will be hosting its first ever BIPOC Wellness Series, bringing in BIPOC facilitators for several workshops covering various aspects of the university experience, in addition to resources available to BIPOC students. All BIPOC students at York are invited to attend. Tuesday, Oct. 4 and Wednesday, Oct. 5, various times. Registration required.

  • Queer Women’s Support Group. Meet and discuss issues in a supportive environment for students with lived experiences. This is a support group is a safe space for women who love women and identify as Two-Spirit, Lesbian, Bisexual, Trans, Non-Binary or Questioning (2SLBTQ). Individuals interested in joining the group will need to first set-up a group screening to assess their needs and to discuss group norms and rules. For more information, please email schw@yorku.ca.
