Join Black Excellence at York University (BE YU) leads to learn how to understand relationships and the differences between growth and a fixed mindset.   • Markham Community Skate Day. Join the fun at the Markham Civic Centre Outdoor Ice Rink and enjoy skating, hot chocolate and more at the annual event. You’ll have an opportunity to connect with fellow community members and learn more about the new Markham Campus and its innovative programs.   • Community Budget Consultations 2023-24. Learn about York’s budget model, current financial framework, planned investments and challenges to be considered for the year ahead. Attendees will have the opportunity to voice what is important to them, and how York should consider allocating investments moving forward to advance our collective strategic priorities.   • Tests, Midterms, Exams, Oh My! Learn tips and strategies you can use before, during and after tests to feel prepared and confident. Monday, February 6, 11 a.m. to noon. Registration required.

  • Study Strategies that Work. Discover what our brains are doing while we learn and find study strategies proven to help material stick. Monday, February 6, 1 to 2 p.m. Registration required.

Mature Student Support

  • Writing Workshop Series for Graduate Students. Work on developing and refining your writing and learn concrete enhancing techniques. Sessions cover everything from the beginning of the writing process to the final stages of revising and submitting. Friday, February 3, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Registration required.

International Student Support

  • Spend your Summer Abroad. Take courses outside of Canada this summer and earn credits towards your degree. Explore a new culture, country and develop language skills to discover something entirely new – the world is your classroom!

  • International Research Mobility Experience. Canada and Latina America Research & Exchange Opportunities (CALAREO) has internship opportunities for students who completed two years of their program. Find out more about this internship and funding opportunities with Global Learning.

  • Full time work eligibility for international students. Some international students can work full-time off campus! Normally, the maximum number of hours during the academic term for international students is 20 hours. However, the IRCC (Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada) has announced that students may be eligible for full time off-campus work. Take a quiz to find out if you are eligible for full-time off campus work.

Health & Wellness

  • Student Counselling, Health & Well-being (SCHW) offers several support groups to show you that you are not alone, help you make new friends on campus and develop feelings of trust and support with group members. Every session is led by SCHW facilitators who promote a safe and positive space for participants.

  • The Health Education & Promotion team at SCHW is hosting several peer-led virtual and in-person workshops throughout the winter term. They cover several topics – including self-care, procrastination, relationships, finding mental health resources and more.
